Traditionally, window jamb are installed 0.8 – 1 m away from the floor level and 0.8 m with the same level as balcony so that we can lean forward. However, modern architecture is “unpredictable, could be as low as the floor” architectural engineer Nguyen Van Bac said.
To make windows compatible with house space, wind and sunlight direction, outlook,… each architectural design can be quite different the others. However, each design combines of position, heights and width has its own advantage.
In the hot and humid climate of tropical zone, houses normally have many wide windows to receive sunlights. Windows are wide to receive more sunlights and to provide ventilation to your house. There are harsh south monsoons from May to October and north monsoon from November to April. Vietnamese people prefer cool northern breeze.
Windows tend to be lower and wider in living room, bedroom or entertainment room. Rooms are decorated with low furnitures to create better outlook into the gardens. Therefore, house owners are able to give the room the graceful look to the outside, bring nature into your home.   

In some cases, it is impossible to open outward because of the limited space and privacy, ventilation windows need to be installed near the ceiling to receive sunlights and catch breezes. In many designs, ventilations doors are installed on top of the main entry doors to provide ventilation and lights to the interior of the house.

There are designs and materials used to manufacture windows. This variety provide the customers with plenty of choices to bring beauty and elegance to their houses. For examples, there are inward and outward opening windows, tilt and turn inward opening windows, top hung windows, sliding windows. Each has its own features, creates the living environment and touch of aesthetic elegance to the house.
